Self reflection and self-assessment. It can be difficult to carve out time for introspection, especially when you are task oriented and have a lengthy to-do list staring you down. But everyone from business consultants to yoga instructors will tell you it’s absolutely necessary for success in your personal and professional life.
Whether you are talking about personal growth, self care, or leadership skills, it is good to know where you are currently so you can create a clear path to where you want to be. It is also important to recognize your own strengths and areas where you could use some growth and development.
There are so many self-assessments out there. They vary in quality and price. Here are two of my favorite (and free!) assessments that help give you a snapshot of so you can make an informed plan and track your progress.
16Personalities
Not only is this self-assessment informative, it is really fun. It won’t necessarily feel that way while you take the assessment, but the presentation of the results is the fun part. There are also multiple collections of additional resources including toolkits and a premium profile.
Now, you have probably seen and maybe even taken similar assessments. Your test will result in one of sixteen personalities such as ENTP, INFP, ESFJ or ISTP. Yup, you guessed it. 16 Personalities is basically Myers-Briggs repackaged.
While your type is unlikely to change over time, you might notice some slight changes or discover new insights about yourself, especially if it has been a while since you last took a look at your Myers-Briggs.

As promised, this is the fun part. You will probably spend the entire time thinking “Wow, it’s like you know me!” and the visual presentation gives you bit sized chunks of information and nice graphic representations to make all that information easier to digest.
But my favorite part is “meeting” the people, real and imagined, who share your personality type. As an example, I share a personality type with Nelson Mandela, Mother Teresa, Marie Kondo, and Morgan Freeman. I also apparently share a personality type with Jon Snow, James Wilson, Aragorn, Tom Kirkman, and Atticus Finch. Yes, my favorite part is seeing these characters. Definitely not the most important takeaway, but still fun.
If you want to see which television and literary character you share a personality test with, you can take the 16Personalities test for free and find out. You will also get a comprehensive profile that includes strengths and weaknesses, friendships, parenting, career paths, and workplace habits.

Leadership Circle Profile
This assessment gives a view of your leadership style. The results are presented in a circle, representative of the 360-degree assessment. The focus is on how you think and behave and how this influences your effectiveness to lead and scale your leadership.
When you split the circle in half, the top shows your creative competencies and the bottom shows your reactive tendencies. If you split your circle profile vertically, the left shows people focuses on relationships while the right focuses on task. When you complete the profile you will be emailed your results as well as well as an interpretation model .
Now, this is just going to give you an overview. There is an entire book dedicated to understanding your results and making changes to improve your leadership skills.
LCP in the Office
You can also utilize the profile within your company. When you do this, your coworkers complete the survey about you. This will give you a better perspective on how others feel about your leadership and what skills you can develop to lead you team more effectively.
